He and Betsie exchanged marriage vows May 30, 1953 at St. Clement’s Eglington, and spent the first year of their marriage and ministry in Kamloops, B.C. (Diocese of Cariboo). For the next six years they ministered to the Inuit of eastern Hudson Bay (Diocese of the Arctic) at Inukjuak, P.Q. During this time, three of their four children were born, number three in the nursing station at Inukjuak, a Mountie’s wife acting as midwife. They returned to Ontario in 1960, where, in October child number four made his appearance at Soldier’s Memorial in Orillia. From then until now they have lived and laboured in this Diocese: Parish of Washago, 12 years, Parish of Oak Ridges 11 years, Parish of Trinity Streetsville (Mississauga) 10 years. Earl formally retired in June 1994, but has done three Interims in the interval, the last being in the Parish of Minden/Kinmount October to December 2004. On the Feast of Pentecost 2008 he celebrated the 54th anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood. Betsie and Earl have been blessed with the gift of twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Among his hobbies are cycling, canoeing, bird watching, woodworking, and photography. |
